Three Arrested in Clarence Valley Under Operation Soteria, Bail Refused in Children’s Court

Police arrested three young people on Thursday 22 January 2026 as part of ongoing investigations under Operation Soteria, with activity occurring across the Clarence Valley and the wider NSW North Coast.

The arrests followed continued police operations targeting serious youth crime, with NSW Police confirming the matters are linked to offences alleged to have occurred within the region. Investigations remain ongoing.

The three young people were before the Children’s Court today, Friday 23 January 2026, where they were formally refused bail. All three are due to reappear before the same court on Friday 30 January 2026 as proceedings continue.

The arrests and subsequent court appearances form part of Operation Soteria, a targeted NSW Police operation focused on addressing serious youth offending and repeat criminal behaviour across the NSW North Coast, including communities within the Clarence Valley. The operation was established in response to ongoing concerns raised by residents, businesses and community organisations regarding crime and community safety.

Police have advised that Operation Soteria involves coordinated enforcement and investigative efforts by local officers within the Coffs Harbour and Clarence Police District, supported by specialist units. The operation aims to identify offenders, disrupt criminal activity and progress alleged offences through the justice system.

Since Thursday 1 January 2026, a total of 26 individuals have been arrested under Operation Soteria across the NSW North Coast. Those arrests have resulted in a combined 133 charges being laid. All matters remain before the courts and have not yet been finalised.

Police have noted that bail decisions, including those involving young people, are determined by the courts and take into account a range of factors. These include the seriousness of the alleged offences, prior offending history, individual circumstances and community safety considerations. A refusal of bail reflects the court’s assessment at that time.

NSW Police have confirmed that Operation Soteria remains active within the Clarence Valley and surrounding areas. Inquiries are continuing, with further arrests or charges possible as investigations progress.

Police are encouraging anyone within the Clarence Valley who has information that may assist investigations to contact Crime Stoppers. Information can be provided anonymously and is treated in confidence.
