New Councillor Announced for Clarence Valley Council

Published on 28 January 2026 at 15:59

Andrew Baker has officially been appointed as the new Councillor for Clarence Valley Council, following the resignation of Allison Bryant at the conclusion of the December 2025 Council meeting.

The vacancy was filled through a formal countback election conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission. Five eligible candidates from the 2024 local government election nominated to be considered for the role, with the countback determining Mr Baker as the successful appointee.

Mr Baker is no stranger to local government, having previously served on Clarence Valley Council from 2012 to 2021. His return brings with it experience and familiarity with Council processes, ongoing projects, and the challenges facing the region.

Countback elections are used when a councillor resigns mid-term, allowing the position to be filled based on the original election results rather than holding a by-election. The process is designed to maintain continuity and reflect the community’s previous voting intentions.

Mr Baker will serve for the remainder of the current Council term. His appointment returns Clarence Valley Council to its full complement of councillors, ensuring continuity across Council decision-making and committee work.

Clarence Valley Council is expected to formally welcome Cr Baker at an upcoming meeting, where he will be sworn in and officially commence his role representing the community.
